Usually, we only recognize our place in history after it’s behind us. At BLM, however, we are seizing the opportunity to help shape Michigan’s transformation each and every day. It vibrates through everything we do.
Our members are the economic engine that helps keep Michigan moving. Our organization’s roots are in Detroit. First founded in the 1970s, BLM existed for decades as southeast Michigan-based Detroit Renaissance. Given the economic challenges experienced by the State of Michigan as a whole, however, our expansion to a statewide organization in 2009 was natural. We now emphasize the development and expansion of jobs, and economic growth across the entire state.
Michigan has a rich business heritage, but that means little in an economy that is plagued with unemployment and personal income levels that are among the lowest in the nation. At BLM, we’re working hard with our partners in government to turn around our state.
It’s time for us to start writing the story of the New Michigan…a story built on our unique assets, competitive advantages and global outlook. A story that embraces what’s new, while respecting what’s old. A story that aims to win, not just to survive.
Our aim must be high: Michigan MUST be a “top ten” state for job and economic growth. Nothing less will do.
