Business Leaders For Michigan mourns the passing of Richard A. Manoogian, chairman emeritus of Masco Corporation

Over five decades, Richard Manoogian turned the company his father founded into a global leader in home products, growing sales from $55 million to more than $8 billion. As it grew, he kept Masco deeply rooted in community.

That same devotion to Michigan shaped his civic life. In the 1970s, Richard joined fellow CEOs to form Detroit Renaissance, a regional business roundtable powering the revitalization of Detroit. The group evolved into Business Leaders For Michigan, and as a key member Richard was a catalyst for change, offering steady counsel and an unwavering belief in the state and its people.

His impact reached well beyond business. As a longtime leader of the Detroit Institute of Arts, he shared his celebrated collection of American art with communities across the state. He spent more than 25 years caring for Mackinac Island on its State Park Commission, and he invested generously in education and the institutions that define Michigan.

Richard led with integrity, generosity and a deep love for this state. We are grateful for his vision, his leadership and his friendship. Our thoughts are with his wife, Jane, and his entire family.
