Business Leaders’ Insights: Worker Training Program Best Practices to Support Business Attraction and Expansion

To ensure Michigan’s economic competitiveness and promote the prosperity of Michigan residents and our communities, our workforce must be trained to meet the needs of a global 21st century economy.

Better-educated and trained citizens earn higher wages, receive more benefits, can save more for emergencies, are less vulnerable to poverty and unemployment, are more likely to create new businesses and jobs, and increase overall economic growth.

Michigan is falling behind in training the workforce it needs, and other states have established more responsive, flexible, and effective job training programs to support businesses in search of talent. Business Leaders for Michigan (BLM) engaged Public Sector Consultants (PSC) to research job training programs in Michigan and identify best practices used by other states to support companies that are adding new jobs through out-of-state business attraction or expansion of existing businesses, with the goal of potentially applying these best practices in Michigan.
